Time flies, Chinese New Year (CNY) of 2012 was passing so fast like rocket. I can't believe that I'm already in March 2012!! A week before CNY, Fayette House, a club of American Degree Program was organized a Pre-CNY celebration at SEGi Kuala Lumpur, Lee Yan Lian Building.
Preparation of Yee Sang |
The most memorable dish was Yee Sang, a traditional dish of Chinese for celebrating Chinese New Year. It represented the togetherness of all the members of the family. Thus, we was bringing this dish to all the ADP-ians. With the multicultural and health concern from Jason (^_^), the Yee Sang was considered vegetarian and halal. Also, it was totally home-made Yee Sang with all the fruits and vegetables.
Decorations of Yee Sang |
The ingredients of Yee Sang included green apples (4), pears (4), green grape fruit, nuts, red carrot, and white carrot. It's simple, but just takes time to cut all the ingredients into small pieces. After that, decorate them accordingly and nicely on the plate.
It's time to Lou (Mix) the Yee Sang |
Before having it, we should put some sour sauce around the dish. After that, we can start mixing it around. We call this process as Lou (mix). As chinese belief, as high as you can Lou (mix) it, you would get a better prosperity life in the upcoming year. In short, it's good for yourself and your family members.
The best moment of Pre-CNY Celebration |
Sharing with our tradition with all different culture background students, I felt proud of myself and my culture, it brought the understanding from culture to culture even it's just small dish. With a simple step, I hope that the world of different countries could stay closer through different festivals which could bring the colors of wonderful life to others. ^_^
