Dating with My Lecturer

Students define college life is assignment, assignment and assignment.
Outsiders define college life is playing around, playing around and playing around.

Here am I to prove that college life is doing assignment while playing around.  =D

We were visit to Guinness Anchor Bhd (GAB) for assignment purposes.

GAB is the first and only brewery in Malaysia to receive the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification from the Ministry of Health and received the ISO 9001: 2008 certification, having fulfilled the additional requirements of ISO 9001: 2000.

Today, GAB is the market leader of the Malaysian beer and stout industry.

The objectives of visit are to understand more about how an organization working, how they separate their department and structure, what the jobs of particular department and so on which related with business.

The design and decoration of company are such trendy and relaxing
And, they did display out their former advertisment

We are enjoying to looking around, what a special experience for us

GAB was shown their hospitality
Mr Ivan, our usher was explain their organization briefly and the making of beer

We get the opportunity to visit the manufacture department

All of us get 2 pints of free beer from GAB

Those "fresh" beers are much more better than in market

I manage to got one pint only as it is really full

From this study visit, I am appreciate to have a look for such big organization. They are good in every side, such as facilities, environment which not only emphasizes on target sales and profit earned. Maybe this is one of the tactics for them, when the employees feel happy and comfortable with company, their working attitudes will be more positive indirectly, isn't?

Szechwan Bean Jelly

As our blog theme, happy things are everywhere.
Tasty food as well. The high class restaurant or expensive foods not equal to tasty food. Me and my coursemate always get delicious and unique foods from night market.

Another special food I found in night market is this, Szechwan Bean Jelly. The hawker is from Szechwan so I assume this is similar and 100% Szechwan local food.

This Bean jelly still so strange to me and hawker is not allow me to take photo of his stall. Still, I did it secretly.

This is the Bean Jelly, which made by mung bean flour

Here the Szechwan Bean Jelly served
The ingredient of soup include capsicol, Paprika powder, soy sauce, fermented soya beans, sesame oil, balsamic vinegar
caraway and Celery leaves added as well

You can choose you Bean Jelly as original flavour, mild spicy or extra hot spicy

Spicy and hot, also known as Ma La, 麻辣 is the symbolic of China especially in Szechwan just like the sambal in Malaysia

The taste is fresh as the spicy is different with sambal and curry

This food is serve in cold, which different with Malaysian used to eat hot food

Vinegar is really appetizing

Spicy lovers should have a try, I get it from Connought night market and wish there are more and more shops or stalls selling this

Show Care to Our Land

As a college student, assignments are can't escape for sure, meanwhile we have to do something which out from the class room, such as doing event or showcase.

It's not a fresh thing to do showcase for me yet this showcase is the most unforgeable one and here I going to explain why I say so...

This is a showcase for one of our subject, Environmental Chemistry.
For sure, our theme of showcase is related to our subject.

Before the actual showcase happens, me and my group members were organize a campaign as to promoting the actual showcase, to collect palm-printed from public (students and lectures of college) to create awareness and as a support action from them as well.

 The campaign.
Students and lecturers showed their support for us by doing palm-printed on our banner.
By the way, to get palm-printed on our banner purposes to create awareness from them to know that our mother earth which need us so much.

Our title of showcase is "Our Atmosphere, Our Protector". Maybe this is a bored topic for you all yet it is never outdated as we really need more actions to save our mother land. The knowledge of saving the Earth is not really enough for human especially for new generation like us. We might know we have to "Go Green" as what media always mentioned but what we can do to go green?

Me =]

The Showcase Day

Board to display the information about our topic.
Green color T-shirts are the reward which will give out for those winner of our booth game.
Candies were packed nicely and give out for losers of our game as encourage.

Our hand-made earth by newspaper.
To spreading out the information about our polluted earth, we color the earth for 2 faces.
One is the land in nature green, and another is green yet a bit brown as our land is polluted.

Our banner which collected palm-printed from our college students and lectures on our campaign, a week before the showcase

Our special hand-made dice for our booth game. Green color is our theme color.
The "word search" game which request gamers to find out the word which related to our topic, such as ultraviolet, atmosphere, melanoma and so on.
The board game we prepared is the “snake” game.

Game time
We are happily to see our visitors are having fun with us.

Group photo with lecturer at our booth.

Why to say this is the most unforgettable one?

Due to our topic, we were prepared the stuffs and everything which related to it, such as the hand-made earth which by old newspapers. As we are going to bring out the theory, "Recycle, Reuse, Reduce".

Besides, we did our board, dice and etc. in colourful, to impress our target audience a very beautiful and natural world which our land should be colorful like this.

The effort we put on this showcase not simply as copy paste information, get display stuffs from sponsors. All the thingy and stuffs we prepared is mostly hand-made from us.

And the most appreciate is all group members were gave the highest cooperation, we done all the thing before it reach dateline. See how effective we are. Haha. But true, tolerance  and cooperation is the main key to doing a good job.

This is might be my last showcase on my college life, I am happy it was gave me such a good memories before I steps in society.

My Hot Air Balloon Day

The annually Hot Air Balloon Festival is coming!!!!

I'm so looking to it and this year I am decide to go there with friend, he promised to give me a ride.

The 4th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Festival at Putrajaya.

We chose to go on Friday to avoid crowd on weekend.

Depart on around 4pm and planned to see the hot air balloon "flying in sky" and then riding hot air balloon which limited 300 people per session.

But, something goes wrong?!?!?!?!

Sun was going rest when we are on the way, a sudden rain pay visit  =[

We still taking the way to Putrajaya and praying that the rain will stop after we reach.

Yes! It's stop raining and we are here!

Unfortunately, rain comes again while we walking here

So that, we decided to take our early dinner while wait it stops

We took our dinner at a cafe which near the Millennium Monument

Weather seems not really good to us
Night getting close and close

Stuffs told us the hot air balloon riding session is called off due to the unstable weather
Mean that, we unable to see any hot air balloon in air

What a bad luck to us!!!!!

This is my first time to visit Putrajaya
Hot air balloon plan ruined by weather so that we just walk around to this beautiful place

And the beautiful National Millennium Monument is grabbing my eyes with the light

As you walk up along the huge walkway of the Monument, you will be able to see the information that is engraved on the plates of the building.

They provide a macro overview of the country's history of Malaysia.

The huge transparent signages that contained the information of the history of Malaysia
It brings the high-tech feel yet remain the traditional culture

 The Seri Wawasan Bridge

Plan always can not keep up with changes.

The moment I get knew the Hot-Air-Balloon-Riding Session is cancel, I was really piss off.
But, after visit to the National Millennium Monument and see such a nice night view in here, I placate myself to calm down.

That's is life, sometime when your plan is ruin by outside factor, that is not really bad as you think, you can choose to turn into a new point of view or keep be in sulk. Which will make you happier?

It's a Tea-Time

In Chinese tradition, Chinese Tea plays an important role in life, you may see they drink tea many times in day,
breakfast: dim-sum with a pot of tea
dinner: meals with a pot of tea
leisure time: chit-chatting with friends or reading book with a pot of tea

For sure, Chinese Tea came from China, with four even five thousand years history.

Chinese Tea Culture, Cha-Dao (茶道) was spread overall the world and now there are several Chinese Tea Culture which modified according to the local culture and their dietary habit.

Daddy is one of the Chinese Tea lovers, he drinks Chinese Tea, Cha (茶) every night after dinner.

Here I am to introduce our Lim's Cha-Dao

Basic equipments to make tea, in Chinese we called Pao-Cha,泡茶

And also this is important

According to the traditional Cha-Dao, the water used to Pao-Cha should be boiling in conflagration, it is helpful to extract the tea flavour.
Yet,
water which boiling too long will reproduce Carbon Dioxide in the water and makes the fragrant and taste of tea in poorer than.

Tie Guanyin is a variety of oolong tea, is one of the common Chinese Tea in market and the price is reasonable.
This is also one of my daddy favourite tea.

First at all, daddy will blanching the tea-set  (photo of right) as it will increase the temperature of tea-set to enhance or maintain the temperature is high enough to bring out the tea aroma and taste.

We can put in the tea-leaves now in teapot A now

The hot water pour into teapot A

The first pass is to be drained of water, tea known as the wash

People claims this wash is because to antihygienie as tea-leaves are made from complicated procedures, it may wash away the dust which might insert while the tea-leaves progressing.

The real is:-
This wash is to soak, to ensure the tea-leaves is emitting after wash and also to antihygienie in minority (as the procedures is not that unhygienic and the production process uses High Temperature Sterilization technology ensure the food is safety).
According to professional, this wash is less than 3 seconds.

Teapot B is purpose to filter away the tea-leaves and avoid over-steeping

Some people will chew or eat the tea-leaves,
yea, it is healthy but scientists were proved that those tea-leaves which were steep by boiling is cancerigenic.

Over-steeping of tea-leaves makes caffeine and tannic acid, it will cause the gastrointestinal stimulation

Tea is served   =]
And normally one pot of tea-leaves can make for 3-4 times.

Do You Know?
Chinese Tea is good for healthy, it...
  1.  Can enhance and strengthen your thoughts and memory.
  2.  Can eliminating fatigue, promoting metabolism.
  3.  Can prevent decsyed teeth.
  4.  Can inhibiting cell ageing, prolong life.
  5.  Is anti-obesity.
  6.  Can prevent senile cataract.
  7.  Is sunstroke prevention.
  8. and so on....

Mummy will use the tea-leaves to make tea-pillow.

It is one of the Chinese culture as well, let the used-tea-leaves dry in the sun.
Make sure the leaves in very dry condition, sewing it into cloth.

Tea-pillow possess the function of soothing the nerves, and eliminating fatigue quickly as well, thus let you sleep sweetly.

Sleep with Wishes

My mother is a tailor, she will use the shredded clothes to sewing quilt for us.

Honestly, I'm very dislike this shredded-clothes-quilt and think it is ugly until I found out the meaning behind this quilt.

In Chinese tradition, to sewing a blanket by using shredded clothes is called Bai-Jia-Bei (百家被), 100 Good Wishes Quilts.

It is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the baby as welcome and celebrate a new life.
The quilt contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from all those contributed a piece of fabric, and the quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.

Although this is a Chinese tradition, it is a great tradition for any child to be welcomed this way, so that I am got to introduce you guys the making of Bai-Jia-Bei, what a treat to read a good wishes when the child is older to know how much they were wanted!

Here are some pictures of Bai-Jia-Bei I search from net. The bottom right is the most simple and easy to make, it is making from square fabrics, you may either hand-sewing it or use sewing machine. And the bottom up and right pictures is the quilt in hexagon, and mostly people will do hand-sewing it as it will be nicer.

Here is my pictures of making the 100 Good Wishes Quilt. I was made my very first hexagon Bai-Jia-Bei on 2006, that is after my SPM and having the 3 months holiday. I do this all because from the require from mom and I am dislike to do sewing job and now I gotta do it by hand but not machine.

I am here to do a fast making procedure as it is really simple =]

Cut the papers into hexagon and shredded clothes in square.
- The size of hexagon is flexible, you can choose it bigger or smallest as you like -
-The shredded clothes must bigger than the paper hexagon -

Edge-folding the shredded clothes on the paper and sewing around to make sure shredded clothes in shape

After done all single shredded clothes into hexagon, sewing them to stitch together by the way as below
- while sewing, the shaped-hexagon-shredded-clothes should be set as front-surface-to-front-surface-

Photo from web

After a few weeks work, here my result of Bai-Jia-Bei
I'm sorry to show such ugly hand-sewing
As I'm still fresh on hand-sewing, I still can't figure out how to make it in a better pattern
So, just simple combine them in large piece

Bottom of this three picture is the back side of the quilt, yea, the paper is still there

Remove all the paper and take off all the thread which you did at the second part

And now, we are going to the final stage

Sewing all the four-side by a bigger fabric and also the whole back-side of quilt

Photo from web

Here is the nicer example of modern 100 Good Wishes Quilt

Older generation will use shredded clothes or patch of cloth, the clothes might from the grandparents' clothes, parents clothes, or even own old clothes.

Pictures above are the record of my second hand-sewing Bai-Jia-Bei on my life.
From does not like the quilt made by shredded clothes, and now love to hand-sewing it, all because of the story behind the quilt and the satisfaction when I using my hand-sewing quilt every night.
So, I decide to make more the quilt to present for every family member. And sure, I will challenge to make nicer pattern like people do.
